We Outside

Although Covid restrictions are being lifted, some of us (me) are still uncomfortable with crowds.  While I’m easing back into social settings, I wanted to figure out a way to be outside without being “outside”.  Because I have a small patio/backyard, initially I put a couple of chairs outside and called it a day.  Consequently, I never wanted to be outside.  To make the patio more inviting, I decided to transform the space to make it feel like an extension of the inside.

Here are a few tips to bring the inside out:

1.       Don’t forget the flooring

I used Runnen decking tiles from Ikea and recycled a nylon rug I purchased from Amazon.

2.       Choose size appropriate furniture for the space

After scouring brick and mortar and online stores, I chose this Sand & Stable 4-piece set from Wayfair that fits nicely on the patio.

3.       Use texture to make the space feel more homey

Yellow is my favorite color, but I chose to stick with black and white in order not to attract bees.  I grabbed a few textured black & white pillow covers and a throw blanket from Ikea.  While at Ikea, I also grabbed some storage bags to store the pillows, etc. when not in use.

4.       Outdoor lighting is important for form and function

I incorporated string lights so that I can enjoy the space during day & night and placed citronella candles throughout the yard to repel mosquitos.

5.       Last but not least PLANTS

Plants bring life to any space and I’m a plant mom, so I don’t need very much encouragement to buy new plants.  I picked up a couple plants for the window planters and a few larger plants with different color foliage to add visual interest.
